St Martin's

A Church has stood on the hillside at the top of Horn Street for over 1000 years. The churchyard contains the grave of Samuel Plimsoll, a Liberal MP for Derby, who is world renowned for creating the 'Plimsoll Line' on ships and saved the lives of many seamen, and earned him the nickname 'The Sailor's Friend'. A full history of the church is available in an illustrated book available from the church or Rocheforts and Forget-Me-Not in Cheriton.

All details of our three church's activities can now be found on our website. Click here to find out more.

The parish of Cheriton: St Martin is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Canterbury’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
