Snods Edge Church

Snods Edge church - Shotley St John, if we're being formal - doesn't fit categories easily: a rural church with a congregation of several dozen drawn from the parish and well beyond; a mixture of styles of worship and of all kinds of people. What holds us together is the aspiration to be a place that welcomes everyone in the name of Jesus Christ and that works to grow together as a community worshipping him. Please join us for worship at 10:30 every Sunday. This continues as usual while our Vicar, Canon Geoff Purcell Smith, is on long-term sick leave.

That commitment means, amongst other things, that we as a parish are committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies (https://www.churchofengland.org/sites/default/files/2019-05/PromotingSaferChurchWeb.pdf) and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer, Mr Richard McAlister, who can be reached on [email protected] The Diocese of Newcastle’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.

Snods Edge, Shotley Bridge, DH8 9TJ, United Kingdom

At 11:00 on Good Friday, we will be holding a walk, including brief meditations en route, from St John's Church up to the old church of St Andrew at Greymare Hill. The walk is a little less than three miles and finishes with an uphill stretch across a field. We then lift-share back to St John's for a simple bread-and-soup lunch. Please join us for this traditional part of our Holy Week observances.
