https://www.churchofengland.org/about/environment-and-climate-change/eco-church Why? ü Becoming an eco church is good for the environment. ü It follows the guidelines set out by the Church of England and our diocese. It meets the fifth mark of mission agreed by the General synod: o To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom o To teach, baptise and nurture new believers o To respond to human need by loving service o To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation o To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth www.anglicancommunion.org/ministry/mission/fivemarks.cfm Some churches abbreviate the five marks to five words: TELL – TEACH – TEND – TRANSFORM – TREASURE. There are five areas that a church must demonstrate environmental engagement with to receive an award: · Worship and teaching. · Management of church buildings. · Management of church land. · Community and global engagement. · Lifestyle.
