Children and Families

We welcome people of all ages to any of our regular services and events. For very small family members, there is a little play area in church which is equipped with toys, books and games. Parents/ Carers are welcome to sit here and play with their children.

St Matthew’s church is proud of its large uniformed organisations for both boys and girls. Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows all meet in our church hall, and welcome enquiries about joining (please see the links on this website for more details).

On the first Sunday of the month, our uniformed organisation usually attend our Family Service in uniform at 10.30 am, and process in the flags of their groups. This short, informal service is also suitable for all families, even if their children are not part of the uniformed organisations. We would love to see your family at this service.

On the other Sundays during the month, we run the JAFFA club (Jesus - A Friend for All). This is a fun, family friendly group providing activities for primary school age children. Simply come along for 10.30 am on Sunday mornings to join in (every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month, when we host family service). Please note that JAFFA Club does not run during school holidays.

Our church toddler group runs every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for 1 hour, 30 mins during school term time in the church hall. Each session begins with an hour of open play including a craft activity and a sensory-play activity. This is followed by a snack time and the session concludes with a time of story, songs and prayer.

Fun Church  runs weekly in church on Mondays between 3.30 - 5.00pm. This gathering is particularly suitable for children and families although all are welcome. Please come along with your child/children or family to take part in fun activities and prayer.

During school holidays we often run activities for children and families. If you would like us to let you know what’s happening and when then please sign up to our ‘Children & Families’ email list via this link - families form

The Parish School, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School has strong links with the church through regular assemblies and a service in church at least once a term. We also have a good relationship with other local schools and nurseries and always welcome ideas for new initiatives.

The Vicar and clergy of St Matthew's church are very happy to conduct Baptisms for babies, children and adults. For more information on Baptisms please see the 'Baptisms and Weddings' tab or the St Matthew's website.
