Accessibility
There are ladies and a joint gents/disable toilets in the church hall and a small toilet in the church.
Baby changing facilities can be found in the ladies and gents/disabled toilet in the hall.
There is parking for some cars on the church site.

We have a number of people on the autistic spectrum involved in the church who help us to be aware of their, and others, needs.

There is a ramped entrance to the church via the left hand door. The hall has a ramped entrance at the front door.
The church is fitted with a hearing loop.
Large print hymn books and some service sheets are available. If you require a special one please contact the administrator (email [email protected]).
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the church and hall (though please check with the group leaders if you are attending a group not run by the church).
We have a number of people with dementia in the church and are aware of the needs of this condition.
Gluten-free bread is available for communion.
Please make us aware of any dietary needs at church run events and we will do all we can to accommodate you.
Our Building
The church is open for individual prayer from 10.30am for 30 minutes before the midweek service on Wednesday.
St John's is a Grade II listed building. Listing number 1278820. It is the only known building by the architect Rober Gunter Wetten (1804-1868) and the exterior is little changed. It is listed because of its architectural design, which is little altered stone Commissioners' Gothic church of 1835-7 with lancet windows, buttresses and octagonal turrets and the interior retains the west gallery and most of the box pews.
The churchyard wall has a separate listing - number 1034603.
The trees in the churchyard have a preservation order on them.
Music and Worship
St John's chuch choir takes part in all Sunday morning services and performs concerts regularly in the church and elsewhere.
The church also hosts concerts from a number of other choirs, both local and national, and is regularly used for rehearsals by a local choir.
The Organ ( originally 2 manuals) was constructed by Bryceson Bros Ltd and donated by Fanny Louisa Tull in 1890. A Choir manual
constructed by the Newport firm of Scadding & Son and the only known example of their work) was donated by Miss Tull and James Elldridge in 1908. The Organ has 24 speaking stops.
St John's has a strong choir of adults and children who practise regularly on Wednesday evenings in term time. They sing every Sunday morning in the main service and in other churches occasionally when asked. They also perform concerts, visit old peoples homes for carol concerts, and have contacts with local schools.
In some Sunday morning services there is a band.
Groups, Courses and Activities
St John's is linked to 6th Newport Scout Group which meets in their own hall in Laundry Lane, Newport.
The Parish Online Bible Fellowship meets monthly on Zoom. It is run by and is well supported by St John's members.
A weekly Bible Study runs in person.
Courses, both in person and online, are for the whole parish periodically.
Brownies meet in the church hall on Tuesday evenings.
The Lunch Club on a Wednesday morning begins with coffee at 10.30am.
A number of community events are run by the church and other groups in the church hall.
A number of community groups, including choirs, dance groups and children's groups use the church hall for meetings.

Guides meet on Monday evenings in the church hall.
The Parish is running a holiday club from Wednesday July 27th to Friday 29th from 10am to 12pm in St John's hall. It is called Wastewatchers and has an environmental theme. Children aged 5-11 are welcome. Booking is essential as numbers are limited. Please email [email protected] to find out more.
St John's supports the Newport Night Shelter.
A Lunch Club runs every Wednesday morning during school term time.
Chatterbox Carer and Toddler group runs the last Monday morning of each month from 9.30am - 11am in St John's hall.

Junior Church runs on the 3rd Sunday of every month in the hall during the service. The children start and end in church.

There is free wifi available in the church and hall.
Guided tours of the church can be given by arrangement.

The church is open on Wednesday from 10.30am until 11am before the morning service and on Sunday mornings.

St John's supports the Isle of Wight Foodbank and has a collection point inside the church.
