St Peter's Shelley

St Peter's church is normally open daily during daylight hours to visitors, tourists and pilgrims and as a quiet space for private prayer and reflection. St Peter's is at present operating as a Chapel of Ease with the Bishop's permission although we do hold occasional services there. Unfortunately, the church is located away from the centre of Shelley and with a worshipping congregation of less than five, the PCC feel it is becoming unsustainable and it is actively exploring the possibility of closing the building. However, we still have a very strong commitment in serving this part of the Parish and in the event of closure the PCC would remain responsible for the maintenance of the churchyard and this would also still be open for access and for burials.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Chipping Ongar w Shelley is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO).
Our Diocese of Chelmsford’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO [Lisa Wickstead - [email protected]] or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor [http://www.chelmsford.anglican.org/safeguarding/safeguarding-contacts]. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
